Five legends of darts proved they had big hearts a few weeks ago by supporting two very special charities.
Saturday the 23rd of March 2019, saw the Longlands Social Club in Middlesbrough welcomed legends of darts John Lowe, Bob Anderson, Dennis Priestley, Jamie Caven, Ronnie Baxter and special guest Kyle Anderson.
The event presented by JSG Promotions and sponsored by TruckpartsNE, raised much needed funds for both Macmillan Nurses and Prostate Cancer UK.
The Macmillan charity was founded in 1911 when Douglas Macmillan was moved by the plight of his father suffering with cancer. He was so motivated to help, that he founded the society for the prevention and relief of cancer to provide advice and information to all cancer patients at low or no cost and for voluntary nurses to attend to patients in their own homes.
Today, the legacy lives on with the charity providing physical, financial and emotional support ensuring that no matter what, support is available.
Prostate Cancer UK have a simple ambition – to stop men dying from prostrate cancer. By shifting the science over the next 10 years to focus on radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and support, they hope to stop prostate cancer being a killer.
The Prostate Cancer Charity was founded in 1996 by Professor Jonathan Waxman to address the ‘Outrageous and arbitrary surgical treatment of men’.
The first national organisation for prostate cancer in the UK, the aim was to improve the care and welfare of those affected by prostate cancer, increase investment in research, and raise public and political awareness of a long-neglected disease.
Starting with five staff and a helpline running one day a week they merged with Prostate Action in 2012 and completely rebranded to form Prostate Cancer UK. Over 20 years, they have invested over £37 million into ground-breaking research and continue to provide award-winning support for men.
The Prostate Cancer UK charity has grown in strength and influence but the main ambition remains the same: to put men’s health at the heart of everything they do.
Our legends of darts event promised an exciting and entertaining night of darts and didn’t disappoint. With the offered opportunity for some fans to throw against some of the biggest names in the sport, an enjoyable night was had and all at TruckpartsNE would like to thank those who took part and supported the fundraising for these two vital charities. All together we raised just short of £3000, thank you so much to all who supported us.

Three times world champion darts player, Glen Durrant is returning and he is bringing PDC star Jamie Hughes with him.
